Gachantivá: Between Peasant Agriculture and Food Basket Pressures

According to the National Land Agency (ANT, 2026), Gachantivá's economy is sustained by peasant family chains such as blackberry and potato crops, carried out through intergenerational collaboration.

Yet smallholders grapple with fertilizer cost spikes, mountain tertiary road deterioration, and scarce technical assistance.

The paradox addressed by this project is that rural living does not shield families from food inflation. Households frequently purchase daily salad greens from town center shops at retail freight markups.

Transforming the patio of the Reina Saavedra Family cuts expenses while revitalizing the Boyacá home garden as an engine of community resilience.
