Gachantivá is a Boyacá municipality located in Ricaurte province, known for crystal springs, misty green mountains, and deep-seated peasant traditions where family labor sustains local livelihoods.

1. Agricultural Profile (National Land Agency)

According to the ANT (2026), Gachantivá's economy is primarily built on smallholder agriculture, led by potato, blackberry, and cold-climate crops operated by family units.

Key challenges include volatile fertilizer costs, mountain road maintenance during rain seasons, and technical training gaps.

2. The Rural Consumer Paradox

Rural residents are not immune to food inflation. Many specialize in cash crops and rely on local grocery stores for fresh salad greens and vegetables, paying retail markups influenced by freight.

3. The Reina Saavedra Family in the Centro Sector (5 Members)

The project is implemented with the Reina Saavedra household in Gachantivá Centro, featuring 5 members aged 25 to 65. Their strong unity, clear communication, and sunny garden area provide an ideal setting for sustainable cultivation.

Project Final Reflection

Community bonds and agricultural roots empower this household garden as an inspiring precedent for neighbor families in Gachantivá.
